Associazione Enti Locali per le Attività Culturali e di Spettacolo

Associazione Enti Locali per le Attività Culturali e di Spettacolo, established in 1988 by the Province of Cagliari together with a number of municipal administrations, is currently a recognised association grouping more than 104 local authorities from across Sardinia. Its statutory mission is to promote cultural activities and the performing arts in line with the provisions of its articles of association.

In over 30 years of work, the Association has put under its belt an impressive number of initiatives boosting the cultural scene and the economy of many Sardinian municipalities, as part of an overall policy to support the economic and tourist development of Sardinia’s communities. This supporting role was also recognised by Article 29(7) of Regional Law No. 2 of 4 February 2016, which reorganised the system of local authorities in Sardinia. The primary purpose of the Association is to support the development of cultural and performing arts initiatives in accordance with the purposes set forth in Article 1 of its Articles of Association.

During its 30 years of activity, the Association has worked alongside public authorities in organising cultural activities ranging from music to theatre, dance, conferences and thematic programmes; securing funding from European, Italian and regional authorities; assisting in sponsorship searches; supporting the identification of staff training needs; building and maintaining networks between local authorities; developing networking initiatives; supporting local cultural and performing arts projects of public authorities. These services are delivered through ad hoc initiatives by its own specialised staff and third-party professionals.

In recent years, the Association has also focused on building and growing networks of municipalities, to help them join forces and strengthen the effectiveness of their cultural activities. The ultimate aim is to pursue an overall local development project aimed at generating economic and employment growth over time by leveraging cultural resources, strengthening the identity of the territories, increasing the visibility of the cultural, historical and natural heritage of local communities, and organising and highlighting the local offer of accommodation and hospitality services.

The main activities and networks established include: Nora Jazz Festival, Saffron Network, Castles Network, the Lollas Network, D.H. Lawrence Travel Literature Festival, Festival of the Remote Past, Musa Madre, “Island of Giants” International Archaeology Festival and the Bottarga Festival.
